If you’ve been reading our blog, you know that the Independent Workforce is expected to grow. Today, roughly 30% of the workforce works independently. That number is expected to grow to 50% by 2020. We have our pulse on the Independent market.
Colorado Job Base has the pulse on hiring in Colorado. According to a recent survey conducted by Founder and CEO Kris Erlewine, things are looking up. Erlewine polled over 70 businesses around the state. Roughly 63% of the respondents indicated they expect to have a moderate to large increase in hiring over the next 12 months. GREAT!
While this is great news, there is no benefit to this increase in hiring if the positions go unfilled. According to the survey, the major challenges include candidates who: have too little experience, lack the necessary skills and/or lack the cultural fit. Not-so-great.
Kris also surveyed job seekers and they. are. not. happy. Only 7% of over 400 respondents said they were happily employed – 31% are unhappy in their current positions and/or seeking another opportunity – 56% are under or un-employed. Wow. Kris’s survey hits the nail on the head. Although Colorado is outpacing the country in job growth, the state is not immune to the skill mismatch and the un-engaged workforce.
What do you think? There’s still time to contribute to Kris’s surveys. You can find the surveyshere .
